Josh Doan spent two seasons with the Arizona State Sun Devils hockey program before turning pro with the Arizona Coyotes.
He never missed a game in those two years and averaged just over a point per game with 75 points in 74 games. That tally puts him fifth all-time in points despite his short tenure in Tempe. The younger Doan set an ASU single season record for a freshman with 37 points in 35 games in 2021-2022 and led the team in goals scored with 16 in 2022-2023.
Doan was named captain of the Sun Devils ahead of his sophomore season creating a very familiar site for hockey fans in the Valley.
He ultimately decided to turn pro after the season and signed his entry-level contract with the Arizona Coyotes before reporting to the Tucson Roadrunners for their push to the AHL playoffs.
Josh Doan wore this Maroon Set game worn jersey in both the 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 seasons.
Arizona State wore their maroon jerseys in 10 games in 2021-2022 and 16 games in 2022-2023. Each player is issued one jersey of each style for their time at ASU, so the jerseys are worn for however long the player is with the program and the style of jersey is worn on the ice.
Doan only wore this jersey in 3 games in 2021-2022, however, because he switched to #94 at midseason to honor local youth hockey advocate Matt Shott’s passing. He had a second jersey with #94 that he wore in the other 7 games of the set. Doaner wore this jersey in all 16 games the school wore these in 2022-2023.
He had no goals and 2 assists in 3 games in the jersey in 2021-2022 and 7 goals and 10 assists in 16 games in 2022-2023. That put him at exactly 19 points in 19 games wearing this maroon sweater.
Josh Doan’s jersey has fairly light wear which seems to be pretty consistent with his game worn jerseys.
The right sleeve has a repair and another large burn or snag which was close to needing to be repaired and has two tiny unrepaired holes. There are also a few board burns and scuffs, as well as a stick or puck mark in the yellow piping and another on the sleeve itself. On the left sleeve there are some board burns including a large one below the that also has a small unrepaired hole.
Both sleeves have some loose threads that show up in game photos.
Looking at the right shoulder there is a large, dark stick mark and burn that is visible in at least one photo of Doaner from the season.
The front of Doan’s jersey has two visible pulls to the right of the captain’s “C”. The “C” itself has some very irregular stitching and a ton of fraying and loose threads. A lot of that is visible in a close up photo of Doan’s jersey in the locker room from Sun Devil Hockey’s official Twitter feed.
Looking at the back of the jersey, there is a very long loose thread hanging from the center of the nameplate.
On the left shoulder in the dimples there is large 2-3” pull that is near the collar. There is some wear and light scuffing in the numbers.
These jerseys are tagged with tags featuring former equipment manager Jon Laughner’s name and “Arizona State Authentic Game Jersey”. Thus far, ASU’s tagging does not mention sets or years, although certain jersey styles do have special tagging that varies from other styles.
