Johnny Walker is one of the brightest stars to lace them up for the Arizona State Sun Devils hockey program.
Walker was a deadly goal-scorer on the ice and every bit the personality off the ice as he helped inject life into the fledgling ASU program and push the team towards national relevance and move into a state-of-the-art arena.
He lit up the scoreboard with 70 goals and 53 assists for 123 total points. Johnny is first all-time in goals, third in assists, and first all-time in points. He also ranks third all-time in games played with 139.
The Phoenix native was the offensive focal point for Greg Powers’ roster for several seasons as Arizona State punched its way into an NCAA tournament berth in 2018-2019 and was on track for another in 2019-2020 before the pandemic shut the season down.
His contribution to the program on and off the ice is immeasurable.
These “gold heritage” jerseys were first shown off by the Sun Devils with a teaser video featuring none other than NHL superstar Auston Matthews. The sweaters were announced prior to the 2019-2020 season and were a tremendous hit with fans.
Arizona State wore their new gold heritage jerseys in 9 games from October 5th, 2019 through February 15th, 2020 during the 2019-2020 season. They also wore them in 2 games in the 2020-2021 season and in 3 games in the 2021-2022 season.
Johnny Walker wore this jersey in all 9 games in the 2019-2020 season, both games in the 2020-2021 season, and just one of the 3 games in 2021-2022. Walker totaled 12 games with 4 goals and 6 assists in this sweater.
It is photomatched to all three seasons that Walker wore it.
This gold heritage gamer has solid wear which is primarily concentrated in the left sleeve.
There are multiple small repairs clustered on that sleeve, as well as some burns and small stick/puck marks. Just above the maroon band on the elbow is a cluster of small dark black marks. The right sleeve has one small unrepaired hole and some faint stick/puck marks and burns.
Walker’s jersey shows some wear on the front with more small stick/puck marks and loose threads in the ARIZONA STATE wordmark crest. There is also nice evidence of the removal of both the alternate captain’s “A” and captain’s “C” since Walker did not serve as the captain for most of his graduate season in 2021-2022.
The front part of this jersey also has a stick mark on the very bottom of the hem near the left hip.
There isn’t much to speak of on the back of the jersey beyond a light stick mark on the bottom hem.
