Josh Doan chose to forgo his final two years of eligibility at Arizona State and turn pro with the Arizona Coyotes in March of 2023. After signing his entry-level contract, he joined the Tucson Roadrunners in the AHL for the remainder of the season.
The former Sun Devils captain played in 14 regular season games for the Roadrunners, scoring 3 goals and 3 assists.
He notched his first professional goal on March 21st, 2023 against the Ontario Reign.
Doan also played in 3 Calder Cup playoff games for Tucson and tallied 1 assist in the club’s 2-1 series loss to the Coachella Valley Firebirds. It was just the second playoff appearance for the Roadrunners since moving to Arizona in 2016-2017.
The Tucson Roadrunners introduced their new alternate white kachinas early on in the 2022-2023 season to a mix of fanfare and consternation. Fans loved the jerseys, but the original version featured desert tan numbers with red borders which were very hard to read on broadcasts or at a distance.
After some fan feedback, they reversed the colors and made the numbers red and the outline desert tan. It creates a sharp look that is every bit as good as the original Roadrunners’ black kachinas.
Tucson wore these jerseys multiple times throughout the season, however since Josh Doan did not sign until the middle of March he only wore this sweater 4 times; April 8th in the regular season, and April 19th, April 21st, and April 23rd in the playoffs.
He had 1 goal and 1 assist in the sweater.
The younger Doan’s white kachina has a surprising amount of stick/puck marks on it.
The right sleeve has board burns below the elbow and one dark stick or puck mark up near the sleeve numbers that is visible in virtually every photo of Josh Doan showing that side of his body.
The left sleeve shows no board burns but has a very nice cluster of stick marks in and around the sleeve numbers. There is also an unidentified stain just above the sleeve numbers and loose threads in the numbers themselves.
The front of the jersey has stick marks on the right side of the crest and another stick or puck mark just below the crest. The sponsorship patch has a decent amount of wash wear. There are also a lot of popped stitches in the collar.
Both shoulder patches show some white markings from board burns.
The back of the sweater only has a few notable spots.
The AHL patch on the bottom has a long loose thread. That spot, coupled with the burn or white mark to the right of that near the bottom of the hem shows up in quite a few photos of Doan in the white kachina jersey.
Josh Doan signed the jersey on the back numbers.
