Joey Daccord is the most successful alumni to play hockey for the maroon and gold at Arizona State University.
The goaltender helped lead the school to national relevance in just it’s third full season as a Division I program, and then became the second ASU player to sign an NHL contract.
Daccord holds the school record for shutouts (8), has the highest career save percentage (.913), and the highest save percentage in a season (.926) with more than 20 starts. He was named a second team All-American in 2018-2019.
Since leaving ASU, the goaltender has worked his way up through the AHL with the Ottawa Senators and Seattle Kraken into becoming an NHL regular and the de facto starter for the Kraken. He signed a five year, $25 million contract extension with Seattle in 2024.
Arizona State wore these Black Set jerseys with single-layer twill customization during the 2017-2018 season.
These jerseys were a change from the previous black jerseys in several ways.
The 2017-2018 versions had black hems below the maroon and gold bands around the waist, whereas the 2015-2016 and 2016-2017 versions had yellow hems or tails. These 2017-2018 versions also had single-layer gold customization instead of the intricate double-layered twill with embossed pitchforks that were used in the previous two seasons.
Daccord’s jersey shows pretty nice wear for such a dark jersey.
There are puck marks in the crest, both maroon and gold bands on the sleeve, and in the maroon and gold bands around the waist. You can also see a small or two in the sleeve numbers.
This jersey shows a few hidden scuffs or marks, as well, with the most prominent being found in the right wrist area where Daccord’s blocker would’ve rubbed the sleeve.
ASU removed the nameplate from this jersey prior to selling it, but it was later recovered so that the jersey could be made whole again.
