The first Arizona State Sun Devils player to 100 points was Brinson Pasichnuk.
The defenseman, alongside Johnny Walker, Josh Doan, and Joey Daccord, is part of the Mount Rushmore of the early years of Sun Devils hockey thanks to his prowess on the ice and impact off of it.
He graduated after the 2019-2020 season as the university’s all-time leader in games played, points, and assists. The defender scored 37 points in 36 games in his final season, finishing third in the nation among blueliners.
Brinson became the second player in program history to play in the NHL when he made his NHL debut a little over a year later with the Sharks on April 28th, 2021.
Arizona State introduced a completely new set of sweaters for the 2018-2019 season. This refresh saw the team abandon black as their road jerseys and shift to a maroon jersey with gray and gold accents and perforated numbering.
The Sun Devils wore their new maroon jerseys in 16 games in 2018-2019 and followed that up with utilizing them in 7 games in 2019-2020.
The disparity in games from season to season was due to the introduction of the “desert storm” gray and “gold heritage” jerseys taking up more of those dates in 2019-2020, alongside the black alternates which were introduced halfway through the 2018-2019 season and worn again in 2019-2020.
Perhaps the most notable aspect of this particular Pasichnuk jersey is that it was worn by the defenseman in the school’s lone NCAA regional tournament appearance. Brinson scored what is, to this point, the only goal by an ASU player in the tournament and he did it while wearing this sweater marking this a huge addition to my collection.
Pasichnuk’s jersey has solid wear with most of it being found in the sleeves.
The left sleeve has one unrepaired rip/cut, board burns, and some loose threads and other noticeable fraying in the sleeve numbers. There is even more wear on the right sleeve with two small unrepaired cuts and one large unrepaired hole, board burns, and more loose threading and fraying in the sleeve numbers.
Brinson’s jersey features a gold bordered, gold lettered captain’s “C” in the shape of the state of Arizona with the inside filled out in gray. This patch is sublimated and has a loose thread on the bottom right corner. Another loose thread can be found at the top of the pitchfork crest. There is also a black stick mark on the very top of the right shoulder that is very close to the maroon and gray collar of the neck. Finally, the front also shows one slash mark/burn in the gray hem on the front near the right hip.
The back of this maroon set gamer shows a ton of loose threading.
Noticeable pilling can be seen on the back neck/collar area, and the small Arizona state outline patch has a loose thread and some pilling. Pasichnuk’s nameplate shows loose threading throughout, including on “P”, “S”, and “I” lettering. The nameplate itself also has a lot of loose/extra threading.
There is not much visible game wear on the back beyond another cut in the yellow band separating the maroon and gray fabric near the waist. The inside of Pasichnuk’s jersey shows solid pilling in the back hem.
