Josh Doan spent two seasons with the Arizona State Sun Devils hockey program and served as captain in his sophomore year.
The Coyotes prospect wore #91 with ASU as a tribute to his father’s famous (and retired) #19.
Doan averaged more than a point per game with the Sun Devils by scoring 75 points in 74 games and worked his way up to fifth all-time in points and fourth all-time in goals (28) before turning pro.
It wasn’t a huge surprise when Josh Doan signed his entry level contract with the Arizona Coyotes on March 16th, 2023 after the conclusion of ASU’s season the week before.
The Phoenix native had 16 goals and 22 assists in 39 games for Greg Powers’ team in 2022-2023.
Arizona State introduced their 90’s retro jerseys on January 1st, 2022 to pay homage to ASU hockey’s roots and history as an ACHA hockey program. They were worn five times throughout the rest of that 2021-2022 season and then worn six times in the 2022-2023 season.
While ASU players are typically issued just one jersey of a specific style in their time with the program, Josh Doan actually has two Retro Set game worn jerseys. In 2021-2022, Doan changed his number to #94 midseason to honor local hockey ambassador and legend Matt Shott after Shott’s passing. That number change coincided with the introduction of the retros — both happened in the same game, in fact — and he never wore #91 in the retro that season.
Therefore this particular jersey was only worn in his sophomore season of 2022-2023. The set was worn in six games and Doan played in all six contests, tallying 2 goals and 3 assists.
Doan also happened to be wearing this jersey when he scored the final goal of the season (and final goal of his college career) to clinch a 2-1 overtime win over Long Island University at Mullett Arena on March 11th, 2023.
Doan’s Retro Set game worn jersey has light wear throughout.
On the right sleeve is a light stick/puck mark on the hem of the wrist and a burn or two and one pull in the maroon fabric. The sleeve #9 has a long loose thread. There is a large burn in the maroon fabric of the left sleeve that has a decent size unrepaired burn hole in the center. On the yellow fabric there is a fabric pull from a stick that is about an inch or so long and there is another fabric pull in the maroon. The wrist of the left sleeve has some loose or popped threads.
Josh Doan’s jersey is relatively clean on the front with one light stick or puck mark on the right collarbone and some loose threading in the captain’s “C”. There is a series of small stick marks to the left of the ARIZONA STATE crest.
The back of Doan’s jersey has a prominent stick mark to the left of the nameplate that shows up in a few photos of Doan from his final game with ASU.
There is a scuff mark or two on the fabric of the back numbers and more stick marks just above the maroon piping near the right hip.
These jerseys had unique set tags that were created to honor the school’s ACHA roots and 2014 ACHA National Championship. It features names of players and coaches who were part of the program’s history.
It is also unique because it does not feature former equipment manager Jon Laughner or current equipment manager Corby Antropik’s name.
