Shane Doan wore this “peyote” alternate game worn jersey during the 2001-2002 season.
It was a bit of a down season for Doan offensively, though he did still reach 20 goals for the third straight time.
He finished with just 49 points in 81 games, however, which was a decline from his previous campaign.
Doaner wore the “A” for the Coyotes again, serving as part of the leadership group under newly minted captain Teppo Numminen.
One of the only photos of Shane Doan wearing the green alternate jersey is found on this Topps Stadium Club card during the 2002-2003 season.
Where to begin with this beauty?
I never thought I’d own one of Shane Doan’s “peyote” alternate gamers. The “peyote” or “desertscape” alternates are quite rare, particularly when it comes to big name players from that time frame. I’m very thrilled to pair it with my Shane Doan “running coyote” alternate.
Doan’s KOHO (size 54) gamer has solid wear throughout, with board burns, stick/puck marks, repairs, unrepaired holes, and pilling.
The right sleeve has some board burns, a light stick mark or two, and a few small picks that are more or less holes. There is one large unrepaired cut near the elbow. The right sleeve #9 has a solid stick mark slashing all the way across it diagonally.
On the left sleeve there are several dark stick and puck marks, a nice amount of board burns, and one large unrepaired cut that is about 2-3” long. There are some dark smudges on the right sleeve #9.
From there, the wear gets even better. The crest shows wash wear, some loose threading, and several stick marks in a variety of spots. On the left shoulder we find a board burn or two, and there is a huge mess of a repair next to the alternate captain’s “A”. There is also a small unrepaired hole next to the larger repair. Doan’s jersey has some light stick or puck marks and burns in the desertscape area near the hem.
From the back, the #19 shows wash wear and some loose threading and has a small stick mark on the #9.
There are a few very faint marks on the back and some loose threading sticking out of the right side of the hem.
Inside the back hem is a Phoenix Coyotes set tag denoting this jersey as a 2001-2002 Alternate Set 1 game worn jersey. I’ve been unable to determine set dates on this sweater, however. I do know that prior seasons there were usually two sets of the green alternates. For now it’s unclear if this jersey was worn for the entire season or half of the season.

Photomatching this beauty has been an adventure.
For whatever reason, there are next to no pictures of the Phoenix Coyotes in their green alternates in 2001-2002. You can find plenty from 2000-2001 and 2002-2003, but not this particular season.
This one was reported as photomatched in the past, but I’ve been unable to determine what bit of wear it was matched to thus far.
