Ryan Whitney was selected as the 5th overall pick of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft by the Pittsburgh Penguins
Whitney played parts of four seasons in Pittsburgh before being traded to Anaheim for Chris Kunitz and other assets
In 2009-2010, Whit played in 62 games for the Ducks and tallied 4 goals and 24 assists
He was again traded on March 3rd, 2010 to Edmonton in exchange for Lubomir Visnovsky
Ryan Whitney played in 9 seasons in the NHL, appearing in 481 games and contributing 50 goals and 209 assists
Since retiring, he has become one of the most well known media figures in hockey thanks to his podcast Spittin’ Chiclets which he hosts with Paul Bissonnette
The Anaheim Ducks wore their Black Set 1 game worn jerseys in 21 games from October 3rd, 2009 through January 4th, 2010
Ryan Whitney played in all 21 games, scoring 3 goals and 7 assists in this sweater
This gamer exhibits decent wear with repairs and board burns in each sleeve, as well as some loose threads and thread bunching in several spots on the back numbers and numbers on the sleeves
The right sleeve exhibits some repairs in the gold fabric around the elbow area, as well as another repair in the white fabric at the seam where the sleeve is sewn together
That repair at the seam shows up in a good amount of photos throughout the season
The right sleeve numbers also show some loose threads and thread bunching
On the left sleeve, we again have multiple repairs in the gold fabric as well as a burn hole on topmost edge of that fabric that extends into the black material of the actual jersey
There are also loose threads and oddities in the threading on these sleeve numbers and those do show up in some photos
The back of the jersey is clean with the exception of some light wash wear and more loose threading in the nameplate and back numbers
Anaheim had Sublistich put set tags in all of their jerseys, and the one in this jersey notes it as Set 1
One more interesting note on this jersey: it is a rare double photomatch jersey where it can be seen (and photomatched) in a photo from November 29th, 2009 along with my Shane Doan 2009-2010 White Set 1 gamer — the same jersey that Doan would eventually wear in his 1000th game on December 17th, 2009
