Josh Doan’s commitment to the Arizona State Sun Devils hockey program was big news when the Scottsdale native announced the news in the summer of 2019.
Doan was just a few months shy of joining the Chicago Steel in the USHL where he would spend two seasons before enrolling at ASU. The Arizona born forward made an immediate impression in Tempe, piling up assists early on in his freshman season.
He set a school record for points in his freshman season with 37 (12 goals and 25 assists) before being named captain for sophomore season.
Josh Doan also made a history of a different kind after his sophomore season. He was selected in the second round, 37th overall by the Arizona Coyotes which made him the highest drafted Sun Devil in program history.
While his time as a Sun Devil was brief, it was memorable.
These “Gold Heritage” jerseys were first shown off by the Sun Devils with a teaser video featuring none other than NHL superstar Auston Matthews. The sweaters were announced prior to the 2019-2020 season and were a tremendous hit with fans.
Arizona State wore their gold heritage jerseys in 3 games in the 2021-2022 season.
Josh Doan wore this particular jersey in two of those games; October 3rd, 2021 against UMass Lowell and December 3rd, 2021 against Denver. The third game of the set occurred after Josh Doan swapped to #94 to honor the late Matt Shott, and therefore was a different jersey. Doan resumed wearing #91 in his sophomore season but the gold jerseys were not worn that year.
Doan had two assists in the two games the sweater was worn.
There is very light wear on this gold set gamer.
Looking at the jersey, a couple of stick/puck marks are visible in the sleeves and there is a pick/pull or two on the front chest and also on the back near the small pitchfork logo on the back neck.
This jersey is photomatched to a stick mark on the right sleeve from the UMass Lowell game on October 3rd, 2021.
