Ryan Whitney was selected as the 5th overall pick of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft by the Pittsburgh Penguins
He spent three seasons at Boston University where he was named to the Hockey East All-Rookie Team as a freshman
Whitney played parts of four seasons in Pittsburgh before being traded to Anaheim for Chris Kunitz and other assets
Ryan Whitney played in 9 seasons in the NHL, appearing in 481 games and contributing 50 goals and 209 assists
Since retiring, he has become one of the most well known media figures in hockey thanks to his podcast Spittin’ Chiclets which he hosts with Paul Bissonnette
Ryan Whitney wore this jersey throughout the 2002-2003 and the wear on it is tremendous
The defender’s jersey is littered with repairs and board burns in both sleeves and the body
On the left sleeve we have what is basically a hive or multiple clusters of old school repairs from the elbow down, many of which are only narrowly separated from each other
Above the elbow there are marks in the sleeve number and more repairs near the top of the left sleeve
The right sleeve has less repairs — though there are at least two big clusters
More stick/puck marks are present on the right sleeve than the left, and there are marks in the sleeve number on this sleeve as well
Whit’s jersey has repairs next to the Hockey East patch on the front and there are a plethora of stick and puck marks all over the body, throughout the wordmark crest, and down on the hem
The back has a few scattered stick/puck marks and one repair cluster in the red band around the waist
This season of BU jerseys had the “CCM” logo on the back below the collar and a Custom Crafted tag in the neck
