Josh Doan is having a breakout campaign with the Tucson Roadrunners in the 2023-2024 season.
The Arizona native has tallied 21 goals and 35 points through 47 games in his first full professional season.
His goal-scoring success led to him being named an AHL All-Star by the league for the February event in San Jose. Doan has remained a constant on the front end of the Roadrunners’ forward corps as other top players like Dylan Guenther have been called up to the Arizona Coyotes.
The younger Doan has yet to receive his first taste of NHL action, however it figures that he won’t be waiting much longer if he keeps performing at this level in Tucson.
Tucson returned to its black kachina alternates in the 2023-2024 season after unveiling the white kachina alternates in 2022-2023. The white kachinas became a one-year wonder and the Roadrunners wore the revived black jerseys in nine games in the first half of the season.
Josh Doan wore this sweater in all nine games in the first half of the season, scoring 6 goals and 1 assist.
Doan also wore this sweater in the AHL All-Star Skills Competition that was held in San Jose on February 4th, 2024.
The jerseys were then auctioned by AHL Authentic as “event worn on February 4th, 2024” though many looked to be first half of the season worn jerseys just like Josh Doan’s kachina.
Josh Doan’s jersey has pretty light wear despite being worn in nine games.
The most surprising aspect is the lack of board burns in the sleeves. While these kachinas are often light on wear, the purple fabric typically shows board burns very well. Doan’s jersey has just two small burns and both are in the left sleeve.
Despite the lack of burns and marks in the traditional parts of the sleeve, this sweater does have some visible wear that led to photomatches from five of the nine games, as well as the AHL All-Star Skills Competition.
The most visible spot is two very dark stick/puck marks on the #1 of the sleeve #91. This wear shows up in Doan’s final game in the kachina before the All-Star break, as well as in the All-Star skills competition.
There is also a very visible stick mark on the 100 Years/O’Rielly Chevrolet sponsorship patch on the right breast. You can see this mark in the final five games that Doan wore the kachina in the first half, as well as the All-Star skills event.
The crest has multiple large loose threads and there is another one at the top of the Coyotes kachina on the left sleeve. Doan’s jersey also shows a considerable amount of wash wear in the numbers; it was this and the mark on the sponsorship patch in the AHL Authentic photos that led to me digging into the jersey and realizing it was more than a one-game or one-event wonder.
Last but not least, this kachina game worn jersey has AHL Authentic tagging on the fight strap along with the 2023-2024 designation.
