Shea Weber wore this 2016 All-Star Game patched jersey during the first half of his final season serving as captain of the Nashville Predators.
Weber has long been one of the best defenseman in the NHL on both ends of the ice, and the 2015-2016 season was his final time eclipsing the 20 goal mark (at least thus far).
The Shea Weber trade for PK Subban has been a never ending roller-coaster since the 2016 offseason.
At first, it seemed a clear win for the Predators as Subban outperformed Weber.
Now, Subban appears to be past his prime (despite being younger) and Weber has overcome a few injury riddled years to return to top form.
In game worn circles, there is regular debate on the validity of “loose thread” photomatches.
Some argue that a loose thread could be present on any jersey and/or is hard to nail down, and is therefore inconclusive. Others argue that a significant or unique loose thread on a jersey that can be matched to a date when the jersey is known to have been worn is actually conclusive.
Naturally, you’d prefer actual game wear, but when it comes to jerseys that have short shelf lives you’ll take what you can get.
In the case of this 2015-2016 Gold Set 1 gamer, it was worn in just two contests; 12/26/15 versus the Detroit Red Wings, and 12/28/15 versus the New York Rangers. The match above is from the Rangers game and was provided by MeiGray as a print with the jersey itself.
Weber’s jersey has light wear as you would expect from a two-gamer.
There’s a large set of stick marks in the right armpit near the sleeve number, and one repair on the right sleeve. The rest of the jersey is fairly clean throughout.
Despite the trade, Weber will go down as one of the best Predators to lace them up. And hopefully we won’t have to deal with that recapture penalty!
