Shane Doan had an incredible career with the Arizona Coyotes organization.
The early days weren’t the most productive, however, and Doan struggled to replicate his junior hockey offensive output with the Winnipeg Jets and then the newly relocated Phoenix Coyotes.
After two seasons of little production, Doaner was sent down to the AHL to play with the Springfield Falcons for a large chunk of the 1997-1998 season.
He found his scoring touch in Springfield, tallying 21 goals and 21 assists for 42 points in 39 games.
Shane Doan wore this blue set game worn jersey while finding his game with the Springfield Falcons.
The jersey is absolutely hammered with wear.
There are stick and puck marks, repairs, burns, slash marks, and an incredible amount of pilling throughout the jersey.
This Bauer jersey has multiple repairs on the right sleeve (both sewn and patched repairs), with burns, snags, stick/puck marks, and some staining. The right sleeve numbers have some light marks, and the right shoulder has a huge board burn/slash mark that is one of the most visible spots of wear on the jersey and can be seen in the photo above.
On the left sleeve we have more repairs (again both sewn and patched varieties), a ton of snags and burns, as well as a few stick/puck marks. The left sleeve numbers have some dark smudges on the #2 and a stick/slash mark through the #1.
The front of Doaner’s sweater features a CITGO sponsorship patch that has a repair on the patch; that’s the first time I’ve ever seen a repair on a sponsorship patch. There are three small repairs and one large repair around the sponsors patch. The neck of Doan’s jersey has an unrepaired hole on the right side of the collar.
There is wear on the crest in the form of loose threading, some pilling, and a few stray stick/puck marks. The front hem has a bit of pilling and a few stray stick/puck marks, as well.
Shane Doan’s jersey has some wear on the back with multiple repairs found there.
The most notable feature on this side is the evidence of at least two other nameplates; one very long, and the other shorter. There are two small repairs on the right side of Doan’s nameplate that are presumably from prior surgery on that area.
Numbers for the players on the roster for that timeframe are hard to come by, so I haven’t been able to track down who the other two players who wore this sweater might have been. It certainly helps the amount of wear make more sense.
There is a large repair on the bottom right near the hem and another smaller repair above it. Shane’s sweater also has a three inch or so repair next to the back #2 that also continues in a long burn/slash mark and shows up in the photomatch above.
This jersey has a few other assorted stick/puck marks and slash marks on the back. It features the 30th Anniversary patch of the Professional Hockey Players Assocation on the hem next to the Bauer and AHL logos.
