Shane Doan’s 1997-1998 season with the Phoenix Coyotes was a bit of a rollercoaster.
Despite spending 1995-1996 and 1996-1997 in the NHL, Doan found himself sent down to the AHL’s Springfield Falcons where he spent about half of the season across two separate stints.
When the Alberta native returned to the Coyotes lineup on February 25th, 1998, he never looked back.
Doan scored 5 goals and 6 assists in 33 games in the NHL in 1997-1998.
He struggled to produce again the following year before figuring it all out and becoming a top end player for the Yotes in 1999-2000 and eventually becoming the captain and the greatest Coyotes player to lace them up.
The Phoenix Coyotes wore their White Set 2 game worn jerseys in the second half of the 1997-1998 season. I have been unable to discover if there was a third set for the playoffs.
He wore this sweater in the back half of that season after being recalled from the Springfield Falcons. It is a nice compliment to the black kachina I own from 2002-2003.
Shane did not dress in the second half of the season until the end of February, so he wore this sweater in 11 games in the regular season and possibly in the playoffs, as well.
He scored 3 goals and 2 assists in those 11 games in this sweater.
Shane Doan’s jersey has very solid visible wear throughout and has been photomatched to quite a few different photos.
The majority of the wear is found on the front where there are stick and puck marks to either side of of kachina logo’s head. These look to have possibly been from one long slash that only left residue behind in spots.
To the left side of the kachina there is another decent sized stick mark that is near the armpit. That stickmark also has a small smattering of other stick/puck marks around it. Below the kachina there are several spots of stick marks/puck marks and possibly ice grime near each skate on the kachina logo.
Doan’s sweater shows several stick and puck marks in the sleeves around the sleeve numbers, including some red paint transfer marks near the numbers on the right sleeve. That same right sleeve also shows a few small board burns and the left sleeve does as well.
The back has a few stick/puck marks just below and to the right of the back numbers.
This jersey has a Coyotes set tag sewn in the hem that marks it as a 1997-1998 Set 2 game worn jersey. It came with letters of authenticity from MeiGray and Game Worn Auctions.
