This jersey was worn by former North Dakota standout and Predators captain Greg Johnson during the first half of the 2003-2004 season.
Johnson wore the jersey for eight games from 10/11/03 until 12/22/03, including during a memorable night of bad blood with nine fights between the Red Wings & Preds on October 30th, 2003. Greg Johnson had two goals and was named the first star of that bloody game.
The sweater shows a modest amount of wear given it was used in just 8 games. Most of the wear is shown near the silver and white band that breaks up the gold and navy fabric at the bottom of the jersey.
There are stick and puck marks and a few picks and pulls visible, mostly concentrated on the left hand side. There are a few marks on each sleeve, though most are pretty faint. The back also has a pull or two and some loose threads. The captain’s “C” has a sizable loose thread.
The back part of the left sleeve/shoulder has the most notable feature of the jersey; a large stain that could be blood (or something else) covers a large part of the back of that sleeve.
The captain’s “C” loose threads and marks in and above the silver and white have allowed for multiple photomatches for this jersey. Several are from a December 22nd, 2003 matchup against the Phoenix Coyotes.
Greg Johnson finished the 2003-2004 season by playing in all 82 games, putting up 14 goals and 18 assists.
