Dysin Mayo wore this beautiful Phoenix Roadrunners throwback jersey for the Meeps on February 2nd, 2019 against the Colorado Eagles.
Tucson donned the old Phoenix colors as an homage to the team's history in the desert, as well as to honor the fans of the original iterations of the Roadrunners. These jerseys were designed to closely resemble the Roadrunners jerseys from their IHL days.
Dysin had an eventful night in the sweater.
He got into his second fight as a professional in the second period against Mason Geertsen. Geertsen was all for it and Mayo was mostly along for the ride, but Mayo did secure the takedown with a semi-armbar after being pummeled in the ribs.
Mayo's jersey does have some wear with an unrepaired hole in the waist and a repair in one sleeve. There is a stick or puck mark in the left sleeve numbers. The crest also has a stick mark in the white area between the upper arm and the stick.
This sweater also has Dysin's typical custom tightened sleeves. He signed the jersey on the back for the winner once they were auctioned off.
These Roadrunners throwbacks are arguably the best specialty jersey the club has worn. This is one of the greatest additions, if not the greatest, to my Roadrunners collection.
I attended the game and originally owned the one worn by Jens Looke but sold it a few months later.
Some time after that the Roadrunners gamers became a major focus of my collection but I was always missing this piece...thanks to some luck I've found an even better replacement than my original.
Mayo is the longest tenured Tucson Roadrunner, having been part of the club since it's inception until earning a full-time gig with the Arizona Coyotes early last season.
Ironically, Mayo had just been named captain of the Meeps and only served in the role for two games in his record setting sixth season in Tucson before he finally got his big break.
