Demetrios Koumontzis was a five-year graduate senior for Greg Powers’ at Arizona State and found himself second all-time in games played in school history with 142.
The Pittsburgh native was a steady and consistent presence in the Sun Devils lineup beginning in 2018-2019. His commitment to ASU was seen as a coup for Coach Powers and he even came with some local experience after playing for the Jr. Coyotes 16U Tier I team in Scottsdale for two season.
Komo tallied 67 points (22 goals, 45 assists) in his 142 games which ranks him sixth in assists and seventh in goals in team history.
Koumontzis wore this “sunburst” 1975 Throwback jersey in all four games the set was utilized in 2020-2021.
Those games were December 4th against Notre Dame and December 18th, 2020 against Ohio State. After the new year they were worn in two more games on February 14th and February 15th, 2021 against Michigan State.
Komo tallied 1 goal and 2 assists in the four games.
His jersey shows decent wear for its use with board burns and stick marks and pulls visible.
The right sleeve has a small pull or two and a stick mark in the lower yellow band around the elbow.
The left sleeve has a few nice burns and some stick marks between the sleeve numbers and the bands around the elbow. There is also a decent fabric pull below the elbow. Above the left sleeve numbers is a large burn that is also paint transfer.
On the back the nameplate has loose threading and a random white stitch that shows on in the middle on the bottom of the nameplate. There is also another pull below the nameplate.
Above the hem is one burn at the top of the topmost yellow band and another larger board burn below the back #2.
The Arizona State Sun Devils hockey program introduced their “sunburst” 1975 Throwback alternate jerseys in December of 2020 just prior to debuting them against Notre Dame.
The jerseys were an homage to the Sun Devils’ 1975 football team which went undefeated and finished ranked 2nd overall in the country.
They featured the sunburst logo which was used by the school from 1975-1979 and some awesome Sparky patches on the shoulder. adidas topped it all off with perforated numbering to simulate the football jerseys worn by the school in ‘75.
These throwbacks are easily the best jersey that adidas and ASU have ever produced for ASU hockey. That’s saying a lot given they have put out some incredible uniforms, but this one takes the cake.
