There is no one in Arizona State’s short history as an NCAA Division 1 hockey program that has had an impact quite like Arizona native Johnny Walker.
Walker remains the biggest personality to step onto the ice in Tempe for the Sun Devils. That is backed up by his variety of media appearances and his groundbreaking NIL deal with Barstool in the summer of 2021.
The winger set precedents on the ice as well.
Johnny holds the school records for goals (70) and points (123) and ranks second in assists (53) and third in games played (139). His goals record alone is so far ahead of second place that Matthew Kopperud (48) will have to return for his fifth season to have any shot at breaking it.
His five years on the ice with ASU bridged the gap from upstart with a beat up local rink to nationally relevant with a killer arena to play in.
Arizona State debuted their second generation white home jerseys in August 2018. These jerseys, alongside the road maroon jerseys, were worn for three seasons before being replaced with the third generation jerseys.
They wore these white jerseys less and less as the years progressed and more jerseys were added to the rotation.
In 2018-2019 they were worn in 13 games. That dropped to 8 games for the set in 2019-2020. Finally, the set was worn in just two games during its final season in the rotation in 2020-2021.
Johnny Walker wore this White Set game worn jersey in a grand total of 22 games (12 in 2018-2019, 8 in 2019-2020, and 2 in 2020-2021) across those three seasons. He scored 15 goals and 8 assists to eke out slightly more than a point per game in the sweater with 23 points.
Walker is photomatched to wearing the jersey in all three seasons via a variety of wear. The primary marks that pop up again and again are the stick marks on the front and the extremely large stick mark and repair on the left sleeve.
Walker’s jersey shows great wear thanks to it being worn in three different seasons.
The left sleeve has a huge repair of a stick slash mark that is visible as early as 2018-2019. There are other stick/puck marks and a few minor board burns on the sleeve as well. The upper part of the sleeve has at least one pick/pull and some loose threading. On the right sleeve there is one repair, several stick/puck marks, some loose/popped threads near the wrist area, and some board burns.
Johnny’s jersey shows several stick and/or puck marks on the front. There are marks all around the pitchfork crest and towards the right armpit. The left collarbone has a faint cut.
His sweater also features the captain’s “C” and is one of the few of his jerseys that still has the letter intact. Most of the jerseys had the letters stripped during his graduate season but this one did not since it was not worn in 2021-2022 due to the third generation jerseys being introduced.
The back of the sweater has a few more stick/puck marks throughout. These jerseys featured the perforated style numbers and the back numbers look incredible on the sweaters.
There were no set tags used by ASU at this time.
