Dylan Hollman served as captain for the Arizona State Sun Devils during the early years of the program.
Hollman transferred to ASU from UMass - Lowell and was forced to sit out the school’s inaugural season as a Division I program in 2015-2016 due to the transfer rules at the time.
Once he was able to take the ice, however, his leadership and work ethic stood out.
“It was really impressive last year (2015-2016) as a redshirt to see a kid come here every day and be the best player in practice without having game time as a reward,” Powers said of Hollman. “He is a kid with a ton of character, he is a 4.0 student, and he leads with a ton of character on and off the ice.”
Head coach Greg Powers named him captain for the program’s first full season of Division I hockey in 2016-2017. He was also captain in 2017-2018 before relinquishing the role in 2018-2019.
The Red Deer native won the Practice Hero award in back-to-back seasons (also 2016-2017 and 2017-2018) thanks to that same hard work, leadership, and tone-setting.
While 2015-2016 was the school’s first season in Division I, Arizona State’s first season with a full schedule of Division I opponents didn’t occur until 2016-2017.
In 2016-2017, Hollman scored 5 goals and 12 assists for 17 points in 32 games. He was tied for third on the team in points and first in assists.
Arizona State recycled several jerseys from the 2015-2016 season to the 2016-2017 season.
This is most easily seen by a close inspection of the adidas logo above the pitchfork crest. On a good portion of the jerseys, it is just a patch over the original CCM logo and there are still CCM tags in the neck.
Dylan Hollman is an exception to this rule, however, because he did not play in 2015-2016. There are also enough photos of him early in the 2016-2017 to rule out wear being on the jersey prior to him wearing it. Those facts coupled with there being no #12 in the 2015-2016 season suggests that most likely Hollman’s jersey was an extra CCM that was converted to an adidas jersey for his use.
Dylan Hollman’s jersey has decent visible wear with burns, an unrepaired hole or two, and stick/puck marks throughout.
The right sleeve has some burns, one unrepaired hole, a few light stick/puck marks, and some pulled and loose threading in the elbow. There are several more stick/puck marks on the left sleeve.
Stick and/or puck marks are found in several places on the front all the way up to the collarbone. The front center of the jersey has the pitchfork crest with an adidas logo (covering a CCM logo) just above it.
There is an incredibly beautiful Arizona state outline captain’s letter on the left breast.
The back is mostly clean with the exception of a few small stick marks. Hollman’s nameplate has a stick mark slash through the bottom of it.
These second year jerseys still featured the unique pitchfork embossed twill numbers that really pop in person.
